Frequently Asked Questions
Do you do assessments, give diagnoses, or prescribe medication?
No. Those services are provided by psychiatrists, psychologists, and doctors.
I offer counselling, or therapy, designed to help improve coping skills, increase self-understanding, and navigate life’s challenges.,
Do you have a physical office space for in person sessions?
No, I do not currently have an office or offer in person sessions.
All of my sessions are virtual, through either video chat using Owl Practice, or on the phone.
Do you take insurance?
Yes. However, I do not direct bill, so you will need to pay for your session and submit your receipt to your insurance provider.
Most insurance plans offer some coverage for counselling. If you are planning to use your insurance benefits, please double check that they cover Certified Canadian Counsellors, not only psychologists or social workers.
What are your credentials?
I have a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am registered with the CCPA as a Certified Canadian Counsellor, and with ACTA as a Counselling Therapist.
What kind of therapy do you do?
II am a person-centred and eclectic counsellor, meaning I draw from many types of therapy to best suit my client’s needs. Some modalities I draw from are:
Emotion Focused Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Internal Family Systems Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
Relational and Attachment Therapy
The Gottman Method
I take a trauma-informed, disability and neurodiversity affirming, and feminist approach to my work as a counsellor.
How do I access your sliding scale?
Just ask.
I know money can be uncomfortable and hard to talk about. If my standard rate feels inaccessible to you, I am happy to discuss a rate that would work for you.
I offer sliding scale fees of $75/hour for weekly or biweekly appointments, and $100/hour for every three weeks or once a month.
I do not ask for proof of need or proof of income. I simply ask that you are honest about your level of need, and that you pay what you can reasonably afford.
